The Tannoura “skirt dance” dazzles the public with its amazing colours and movements
The Dubai Outlet Mall one of the key sponsors of the Dubai Shopping Festival 2010, organises daily a variety of fun events, in order to bring and joy and happiness to the hearts of shoppers and mall visitors, and provide them with a unique shopping experience.
Among the most awaited events is the Tannoura or el-Tannoura dance, an Egyptian folk dance usually performed in Sufi festivals. The word "tannoura" may refer to the dance, the dancer, or the large skirt used in the performance. The “skirt dance” dazzles the public with its amazing colours and movements, and the faster the performance, the more the audience enjoys the show. The dance became an acclaimed part of the Dubai Shopping Festival since its launch in 1996, and each year the organisers try to bring something new in order to attract the public. This year, spectators witnessed a new type of skirt, adorned with bright lights, which gave the movement a whole new dimension.
Rigga Street: a place where culture and tradition converge
Each year during the Dubai Shopping Festival, the Rigga Street in Deira fills up with visitors in search of recreation and entertainment. Various shows and special events liven up the street and bring joy to the crowds.
One of this year's main attractions was the dance group from Tajikistan, who managed to create a festive atmosphere that reminded of a big wedding party. Hundreds of people came on February 2 to Al Rigga street to watch the colourful dancers and to listen to Rachmaninov music.
On February 8, thousands of spectators gathered again on Al Rigga Street to listen to musicians from various countries, playing the cello, violin, flute and guitar, and performing classical music, pop music and traditional Arabic songs.
One of the participants is Anna Monica, who has been a musician since the age of seven. It was her father who first encouraged Anna Maria to play the accordion, and since then she's been attending a variety of musical events and festivals. The spectators on Rigga Street were impressed by her ability to perform a wide range of musical tunes, from pop to classical, from Latino music to French and Italian songs.
Venetian stilt walkers, puppet shows and Italian opera at 'Teatro di Mercato'
This year Mercato, one of the main DSF sponsors, aims to attract visitors and shoppers through its Italian Renaissance-inspired theme, Teatro di Mercato. Throughout DSF 2010, visitors are able to enjoy various stage shows and performances, including Italian ballet, opera, and comedy. Shoppers, both adults and children, are also entertained by Venetian stilt walkers, puppet shows and and human marionettes on strings.
