My name is Hasan Murad and I am 22 years old. I was born and have lived all my life in Al Ain city. I am a third-year student at UAE University and my major is broadcast journalism. I chose to study media as I have always felt that there is something inside me that draws me to it, a calling that asks me to ‘feed’ it and develop it day after day.
One of the best experiences so far as a media student was when I took part earlier this year in a guided tour of the news centre of Dubai TV. Together with my colleagues we learned about the secrets behind producing a news bulletin, and then we attended a live broadcast of the ‘sabah alkhair ya biladi’ (‘good morning, my country’) programme.
I volunteered to do a screen test and read a news bulletin. It was an amazing experience and I felt so proud when Mr Mahmood, one of the Dubai TV directors, praised me for my performance.
It was an extraordinary day, a memorable insight into real TV production. We learned a lot about TV directing, we found out useful information about receiving telephone calls on more than one line during a live TV show, we marvelled at the mechanics of the control room, and we watched how rushes become broadcast material in the montage room.
For my part, I enjoyed every minute of that day! And I hope that one day I will be the one to show a new generation of students the secrets behind TV broadcasting.
